A bigoted, populist, conservative, libertarian, constitutionalist

would be the way some would define redneckin’s political philosophy. A sample is here

And one of the first things that I currently look for in connection with a politician is the letter after his/her/it’s name- D,R,I,L….

Most regular readers know my general philosophy is “a pox on both of their houses”.
I tend to agree with U.S. Sen. Huey Long, Louisiana populist,
"The only difference between the Republican and Democratic parties is that one is skinning from the bottom up while the other is skinning from the top down."I also believe that "a divided government that is viewed as ineffective" is the best government. Ineffective being defined as not being able to pass the wish lists of most of the state’s mainstream media. Most everyone knows I bailed on the Republicans and W circa 2003

On the national, state scene, a D is almost *an immediate disqualifier as I noted Ad nauseam is this and other versions of this post
“I vote the person, not the party"
"Oooooh. Aren't you special?
When you vote for a Democrat, no matter how conservative he or she is on the local level, even Zell, your voting for Patrick Leahy and the National Democratic party to control who is appointed as Judges. You're voting to put Hillary of New York and Kennedy of Massachusetts in charge of your children’s education and your healthcare. You're voting for Schumer of New York and Feinstein of California to take care of your guns. So, whenever you Southern Conservatives, vote for any Democrat conservative (oxymoron?), your cutting your own judicial throat by handing the power of the Senate to the West Coast and Northeast Liberals. Besides, Alabama has been run by Democrats, forever and a day and look at the shape everybody says we're in.”

Almost*?

Yes, Governor is one where the D is not an immediate disqualifier…. A qualifier is the D matters if the Democrats hold both houses.
So, where does that leave Artur Davis in his quest for the governorship?
The legislative bodies are currently in Democrat hands
Artur Davis was a stanch supporter of Obama, who is a devout leftist
Artur Davis is black

Only one of these is not a automatic disqualifier can you guess which one?

Two hints; one here and one here

There is a third post on Alan Keyes that I can’t seem to find.

Davis being black, is not an automatic disqualifier, it’s his democratic baggage that will have to be weighed against the republican’s baggage against what party will run the State House and Senate.

Artur Davis on the issues

Me, I blame the teachers union (AEA) and Democrats

But Alabama's application for $181 million basically says that schools here would use the money to expand existing programs.
I see Bobby Bright (US Rep, Al, 2)

has introduced H. J. Res. 78: proposing a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

All the co-sponsors, as of this post, are Democrats. Some would regard this as a "stop me before I spend again" bill, but I suspect that it is nothing more than a "we gotta raise taxes to balance the budget, so it's not our fault" bill.

redneckin note: If the healthcare bill passes by way of reconciliation, Bobby Bright will be just as responsible for it passing as if he had voted for it.

Remember Bobby Bright is an enabler by virtue of the "D" of Pelosi and the others of the far left. And we all know my opinions of Bobby Bright was shaped during his days as mayor of Montgomery.

As I've noted time and time again

It should be duly noted despite claims that Bobby Bright, and other "conservative democrats (oxymoron?) running for office in Alabama would be "independent", the Liberals are fully in charge of the national party.

Now all together, Where does the power lay with the Senate and the House?
That's right, the committee heads.
And how are the committee heads generally selected?
That's right, Seniority.
And who holds the most seniority?
That's right, the old liberal guard, led by Pelosi, Shumer, et al

This story has unnoted

ties to Obama and the Democrats.

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero on Monday demanded an explanation from Venezuela after Judge Eloy Velasco announced that an investigation turned up evidence Chavez's government facilitated collaboration between the Basque group ETA and Colombia's leftist rebels — and the two groups planned to assassinate Colombia's president................The probe is based largely on e-mails that were in a computer used by a FARC leader named Raul Reyes, who died in a Colombian military raid on a FARC camp in Ecuador in March 2008.

What else was in Reyes computer?
Glad you asked.

"In a Dec. 11 (2007) message to the secretariat, Marquez writes: "If you are in agreement, I can receive Jim and Tucker to hear the proposal of the gringos."

Writing two days before his death, Reyes tells his comrades that "the gringos," working through Ecuador's government, are interested "in talking to us on various issues."

"They say the new president of their country will be (Barack) Obama," he writes, saying Obama rejects both the Bush administration's free trade agreement with Colombia and the current military aid program."

Which had redneckin asking

I don't understand the media and blog worlds lack of interest in this story.

What are the various "U.S. diplomatic overtures" that they wish to pursue with FARC, that is listed as a international terror group?
Who is making the diplomatic overtures?
Are they State Department?
Are they officials in the U.S. Government?
Why are they deciding the election of Obama is a given and that the U.S. will cease to support Colombia?
Who are "Jim and Tucker"?

Are they officials in Obama's campaign instead of government?
Are they free lancing diplomacy or is this an official position of the U.S.?

Finally Power Line asked

"If this report is correct, Nancy Pelosi was carrying on her own foreign policy in opposition to that of the United States, trying to work with the socialist Hugo Chavez and the Communist FARC terrorists to undermine America's ally, Colombia. In normal times, this would be unthinkable. Given the crazed state of today's Democratic party, I'm not so sure."

"Was "Jim" Jim McGovern? And, if so, was he really the emissary of Nancy Pelosi to a gang of South American terrorists, urging them to hold on until Barack Obama can sell out America's ally and the terrorists' nemesis, Uribe, by withdrawing from the Colombia free trade agreement and cutting off aid to Colombia's government?"

Kinda explains the Obama administrations support of fellow traveler Honduran President Manuel Zelaya when he was removed in accordance with Honduran law as Obama referred to it as a "coup"

One of the things

I've never understood is why people move to the country and the first thing they do is put a street light in their yard. Some areas of the countryside are lit up like one of Carl Gregory's car lots.
If you're scared of the dark, stay in the city.
Power companies like Tallapoosa Electric make it easy. They offer a the "security" light for a set monthly fee which gives them a nice revenue stream. The only thing I see these lights doing is making it easier for sneak thieves to see to steal your stuff.
I had the one that was in the yard of Rabbit Run removed when we moved in. I wanted it dark, so I could see the thieves flashlights as they tried to find my stuff in the outbuildings. Plus it made it easier for me and the 12ga semi to sneak up on them.
Unfortunately, my neighbors pollute the night sky with multiple lights. I just wish they would keep it on their property and let me enjoy a dark sky

about bingo/gambling in Alabama?

I really don't care.
2, my father who saw what gambling and the reliance by government on the industry did to Phenix City that culminated in the assassination of the state attorney general, has deep anti feelings

The only thing I would like to see, whether it be bingo, casino gambling or lottery is a means test to ensure that those who are gambling are not doing it with money that is provided or "freed up" by the taxpayer.

One way to ensure enforcement is to require a check on anyone claiming winnings. The amount of taxpayer assistance received prior to the claim would be deducted from the winnings
