10 March

A bigoted, populist, conservative, libertarian, constitutionalist

would be the way some would define redneckin’s political philosophy. A sample is here

And one of the first things that I currently look for in connection with a politician is the letter after his/her/it’s name- D,R,I,L….

Most regular readers know my general philosophy is “a pox on both of their houses”.
I tend to agree with U.S. Sen. Huey Long, Louisiana populist,
"The only difference between the Republican and Democratic parties is that one is skinning from the bottom up while the other is skinning from the top down." [His mouth keeps running]

Alabama has lost out

on a chance to "Race to the Top" with a $200 million grant.

Me, I blame the teachers union (AEA) and Democrats

But Alabama's application for $181 million basically says that schools here would use the money to expand existing programs. More extensive reforms, including performance-based pay for teachers, were killed after Alabama Education Association leader Paul Hubbert wrote state Superintendent Joe Morton a letter on Jan. 5 opposing them.

So does the Governor.

03 March

I see Bobby Bright (US Rep, Al, 2)

has introduced H. J. Res. 78: proposing a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

All the co-sponsors, as of this post, are Democrats. Some would regard this as a "stop me before I spend again" bill, but I suspect that it is nothing more than a "we gotta raise taxes to balance the budget, so it's not our fault" bill.

redneckin note: If the healthcare bill passes by way of reconciliation, Bobby Bright will be just as responsible for it passing as if he had voted for it.

Remember Bobby Bright is an enabler by virtue of the "D" of Pelosi and the others of the far left. And we all know my opinions of Bobby Bright was shaped during his days as mayor of Montgomery.

As I've noted time and time again

It should be duly noted despite claims that Bobby Bright, and other "conservative democrats (oxymoron?) running for office in Alabama would be "independent", the Liberals are fully in charge of the national party.

Now all together, Where does the power lay with the Senate and the House?
That's right, the committee heads.
And how are the committee heads generally selected?
That's right, Seniority.
And who holds the most seniority?
That's right, the old liberal guard, led by Pelosi, Shumer, et al

This story has unnoted

ties to Obama and the Democrats.

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero on Monday demanded an explanation from Venezuela after Judge Eloy Velasco announced that an investigation turned up evidence Chavez's government facilitated collaboration between the Basque group ETA and Colombia's leftist rebels — and the two groups planned to assassinate Colombia's president................The probe is based largely on e-mails that were in a computer used by a FARC leader named Raul Reyes, who died in a Colombian military raid on a FARC camp in Ecuador in March 2008.

What else was in Reyes computer?
Glad you asked.

"In a Dec. 11 (2007) message to the secretariat, Marquez writes: "If you are in agreement, I can receive Jim and Tucker to hear the proposal of the gringos."

Writing two days before his death, Reyes tells his comrades that "the gringos," working through Ecuador's government, are interested "in talking to us on various issues."

"They say the new president of their country will be (Barack) Obama," he writes, saying Obama rejects both the Bush administration's free trade agreement with Colombia and the current military aid program."

Which had redneckin asking

I don't understand the media and blog worlds lack of interest in this story.

What are the various "U.S. diplomatic overtures" that they wish to pursue with FARC, that is listed as a international terror group?
Who is making the diplomatic overtures?
Are they State Department?
Are they officials in the U.S. Government?
Why are they deciding the election of Obama is a given and that the U.S. will cease to support Colombia?
Who are "Jim and Tucker"?

Are they officials in Obama's campaign instead of government?
Are they free lancing diplomacy or is this an official position of the U.S.?

Finally Power Line asked

"If this report is correct, Nancy Pelosi was carrying on her own foreign policy in opposition to that of the United States, trying to work with the socialist Hugo Chavez and the Communist FARC terrorists to undermine America's ally, Colombia. In normal times, this would be unthinkable. Given the crazed state of today's Democratic party, I'm not so sure."

"Was "Jim" Jim McGovern? And, if so, was he really the emissary of Nancy Pelosi to a gang of South American terrorists, urging them to hold on until Barack Obama can sell out America's ally and the terrorists' nemesis, Uribe, by withdrawing from the Colombia free trade agreement and cutting off aid to Colombia's government?"

Kinda explains the Obama administrations support of fellow traveler Honduran President Manuel Zelaya when he was removed in accordance with Honduran law as Obama referred to it as a "coup"

One of the things

I've never understood is why people move to the country and the first thing they do is put a street light in their yard. Some areas of the countryside are lit up like one of Carl Gregory's car lots.
If you're scared of the dark, stay in the city.
Power companies like Tallapoosa Electric make it easy. They offer a the "security" light for a set monthly fee which gives them a nice revenue stream. The only thing I see these lights doing is making it easier for sneak thieves to see to steal your stuff.
I had the one that was in the yard of Rabbit Run removed when we moved in. I wanted it dark, so I could see the thieves flashlights as they tried to find my stuff in the outbuildings. Plus it made it easier for me and the 12ga semi to sneak up on them.
Unfortunately, my neighbors pollute the night sky with multiple lights. I just wish they would keep it on their property and let me enjoy a dark sky

Why have I been so quite

about bingo/gambling in Alabama?

I really don't care.
2, my father who saw what gambling and the reliance by government on the industry did to Phenix City that culminated in the assassination of the state attorney general, has deep anti feelings

The only thing I would like to see, whether it be bingo, casino gambling or lottery is a means test to ensure that those who are gambling are not doing it with money that is provided or "freed up" by the taxpayer.

One way to ensure enforcement is to require a check on anyone claiming winnings. The amount of taxpayer assistance received prior to the claim would be deducted from the winnings

If you're wondering what brought on

the tirade in the previous post about Mike Rogers (R, Al, 3)

It was this post in The American Spectator

Sweet Tea for GOP in Alabama

It's a good read with some warnings for the Republican establishment
08:47:38 - Chuck Myguts - No comments

Considering my opinion

about Mike Rogers (Al, 3, R) where in one post, a few years ago I noted that he was trumpeting "As Chairman of its Management and Oversight subcommittee, Rogers has investigated waste, fraud and abuse in the Federal government,"
I had to ask "I wonder if he ever found any"

Now he sends out a slick mailing talking about how he opposed the stimulus bill and has a graph noting the public debt outlook.

How did he vote before on pork issues?

The House has over-rode
the Presidents veto of the pork bloated Water Resources Development Act.
Do you wonder how Mike Rogers (R, Al, 3) voted?
Why?

How the vote went
Bachus, S. (R-AL-6) Nay
Everett ( R-AL-2) Aye
Bonner (R-AL-1) Aye
Davis, A. (D-AL-7) Aye
Aderholt (R-AL-4) Aye
Cramer (D-AL-5) Aye
Rogers, Mike D. Aye

Thing is, last year might have been Segall's best shot. Congressman Roger's has been voting for the bennies for the 3rd such as SCHIP, healthcare for children that he was attacked on last election while opposing the big spending bills that he was also attacked on while still bringing home some pork

Anybody want to take a stab
at explaining to me why this is anything other than pork that Mike Rogers (Republican spending money like Democrats) is trying to bring home to buy votes with?

"U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Saks, announced today Phenix City could receive $250,000 to help support the continuing redevelopment of the city’s Chattahoochee River front."

Surely, it isn't the job of the federal taxpayer ( Alabama is a net gainer in the exchange of tax dollars. Thanks, Georgia) help fund Phenix City's RiverFront development and "help create a unique place for entertainment for families and residents in the area,

Is it time to fire Mike Rogers (R, Al, 3rd)?
Congressman Rogers voted for 50 items of pork ( by voting against the amendments to strike said “pork” or multiple items of pork) to score an embarrassing 0%. And this from what should be a fiscally conservative Republican.
Heck, the average Democrat score was 2%. Mike scored 0%, joining 81 Democrats and 24 Republicans.

Some of the fifty pork items that Mike Rogers voted in favor of

funding of $129,000 for the Mitchell County Development Foundation for the home of the "perfect Christmas tree" project.

funding of $2,000,000 for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at the City College of New York in New York City.

funding for "parking facilities"

funding of $628,843 for grape genetics research in Geneva, NY.

funding of $50,000 for the National Mule and Packers Museum in Woodlake, CA.

Worthy projects?
Not with federal taxpayer dollars. If the projects are worthy, let the local taxpayer pick up the tab.
As for Congressman Rogers, maybe it's a case of "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours."

So, how did Alabama do overall?
Embarrassing. No wonder Alabama comes out on the positive side of the exchange of federal tax dollars. I suppose the Ledger-Enquirer and the local news media will praise Alabama Representatives as being especially effective. Or as the DownTown Columbus paper likes to say "bacon, not pork"

The Club for Growth has developed
the Flake Anti-Pork Scorecard

“Thanks to Congressman Jeff Flake's 19 anti-pork amendments, we now have every House member on record regarding their positions on earmarks. Before now, House members have been able to avoid scrutiny because their pork was co-mingled with other projects and tucked into the dark corners of big spending bills. Or they were able to withstand the scrutiny because they were attacked as a whole chamber and not directly attacked themselves.
But because of Flake's amendments, they were recently forced to cast up-or-down votes on specific projects. They could no longer deflect attention. ”

And where does Mike Rogers (R, 3rd Alabama) stand on Pork? Well, after 19 votes, about like we would have expected.
0 for 19 or 0%

I have to say Rep Mike Rogers (R, Al, 3) has a pretty good list going to

Of course, this is Alabama. We're not socialist ( all for one, one for all), we're populist (What can you do for me with someone else's money?)

Why am I not surprised?
Not only wasn't I surprised that Mike Rogers (R, Al, 3), didn't take the pledge (hey anybody that votes to spend 129,000 federal tax dollars to fund the "perfect Christmas tree" project is unlikely to take the pledge) , but not one of Alabama's three on the appropriations committee did either.
Heck, none of Alabama's Reps took the pledge.
Georgia had three that swore off of earmarks, including Lynn Westmoreland

Does it really matter since the media and the Justice Department are going to fixate on more important things like the College Football BCS

That the Obama campaign received foreign donations as a result of this scheme may be the only thing agreed-upon by both Pamela Geller and Charles Johnson. When GF and I

first moved out here to Rabbit Run, we didn't have tv and I have to say I didn't miss it much. As a matter of fact, I was pretty vocal when GF wanted Dish so she could watch Auburn football. Vocal or not, I didn't win the argument
But now, GF has decided that "we" waste to much time on tv and has canceled Dish. Fine by me, I didn't like having all those channels when we watched less than ten.
Anyway, it looks like it's back to liberal taxpayer radio, talk, a few shows on local tv and rental dvd's. The news I get online.

Speaking of the liberal taxpayer radio

I’m a man of varied musical taste.
I started off life listening to the Porter Waggoner show on Saturday while my mother ironed the clothes that had waited patiently in the refrigerator . I had less interest in the music than in the Lone Ranger show that came on next.

From old country to surfing, to the overrated Beatles (the early years) to hard core rock, to metal, to blues, to rhythm to jazz to religious, most have been staples in my listening repertoire at one time or another.
Well, except hip hop, gansta, classical and opera. That is until my radio reception limited me to NPR. In my Walden days (I'll post on that one day) and later in the limited reception of the Pathfinder with the coathanger antenna and Rabbit Run, Opera and Classical, became old familiars.
Saturday mornings on my way to rabbit hunts, it is classical. You know when you’ve been listening to it way to much when there is a trivia show and you start getting the right answers

While Obama

rants and raves about campaign finance reform, I thought I would share a couple of redneckin's posts about Obama own very questionable donations

Just how venal will an Obama administration be?

We know that he tries to intimidate opponents by using the courts and representatives of the law.
And we know that he is getting massive donations from unknown sources, large amounts of it are coming from overseas sources that might have issues with our Constitution. And this is just to get elected

"Similarly, a donor identified as “Pro, Doodad,” from “Nando, NY,” gave $19,500 in 786 separate donations, most of them for $25. For most of these donations, Mr. Doodad Pro listed his employer as “Loving” and his profession as “You,” just as Good Will had done.
....
Until recently, the Obama Web site allowed a contributor to select the country where he resided from the entire membership of the United Nations, including such friendly places as North Korea and the Islamic Republic of Iran."

and

One thing is for sure Obama certainly has some interesting donors

"A donor named Hbkjb, jkbkj

City: Jkbjnj Works for: Kuman Bank (doesn't exist)

Occupation: Balanon Jalalan Amount: $1,077.23

or the donor Doodad, The # of transactions = 1,044

The $ contributed = $10,780.00

This Doodad character works for FDGFDGF and occupation is DFGFDG "

Maybe some of them might want to get a few of Alabama absentee ballots. I've heard that they are real easy to get and investigations into abuse is limited,....if you're a Democrat

and just to take a shot at the media

I see that the public's opinion of the news media is pretty much the same all over.

"Perhaps most troubling for the press corps, though, was this finding: "55% said media bias is a bigger problem for the electoral process than large campaign donations.""

Being in the tank for Obama and all, you know

Update: an excerpt from a Obama email following the SOTU.

I have no illusions -- there have been setbacks, and there will be more to come. The special interests who have shaped the status quo will keep fighting tooth and nail to preserve it.

So tonight, I'm asking you to join me in the work ahead. I need your voice. I need your passion. And I need your support.

Can you help fuel our fight for the middle class with a monthly donation of $15 or more?

No word if Hbkjb, jkbkj, and Doodad, will be contributing

Age difference?

Do you regard it as violating the VIII about excessive fines?

Define "computer" since cell phones and personal assistants are pretty much the same thing?

Shouldn't teachers fall into this bill since they violate "trust" given by the public?

Is this "all" property, down to the gold fillings in the teeth? Before you think I'm being silly asking this, I've read of just such a case.

Buying the vote in Alabama

Nothing unusual about that.

Barron’s bill would get $1 billion from the $2.5 billion Alabama Trust Fund. The trust fund was built over three decades with money from natural gas wells drilled in state-owned waters along the Alabama coast.

This is on top of half a billion from the feds for Alabama Roads in the first stimulus package and the Feds are considering giving Alabama another half a billion. If all goes as planned that would give Alabama $2,000,000,000 for roads.
My question is where does the money collected from the tax on gasoline go? I mean besides bike paths, river walks, parking lots and other projects that are mostly pork.

Will this stimulate the Alabama economy?
Not if previous efforts are any indication

An Associated Press analysis of stimulus spending found that it didn’t matter if a lot of money was spent on highways or none at all: Local unemployment rates rose and fell regardless. And the stimulus spending only barely helped the beleaguered construction industry, the analysis showed.”

The most likely result will be a " Lowell Barron Higway" crisscrossing Fyffe.

Remember that redneckin repeatedly warned that Alabama would set up rainy day funds and them raid them on a regular basis.

I see nothing but abuse

coming from this bill

The Alabama House voted 95-0 to pass a bill by Democratic Rep. Ken Guin of Carbon Hill that allows authorities to confiscate the property of a person convicted of using a computer to lure a young person to meet for sexual reasons. An exception is the house, car or other property can’t be confiscated if it is needed by a spouse or child who did not know the computer was being used to solicit a child.

I would never defend a child predator, but I sincerely see problems on the horizon. Part of the problem will be define "computer" since cellphones and personal assistants can fall in that category. Age differences? Entrapment?
Never mind my long standing demands that the US Constitution remain supreme in not imposing excessive fines.
